PLATEAU STATE UNIVERSITY, BOKKOS MANAGEMENT dE

The attention of the Management of Plateau State University, Bokkos (PLASU), has been drawn to a press release by a political party and a letter purported to be written by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to the Visitor to the University and Executive Governor of Plateau State, which is
unfortunately circulating on social media.

This action is capable of causing anxiety and shaking the confidence of students, staff, parents and prospective students; therefore, Management wishes to
make the following clarifications:

1.That PLASU is a citadel of knowledge and thelegacy of Plateau people should not be dragged
into any political contestation, especially those that have no bearing on the University’s academic
activities.
2.That since the suspension of industrial action by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),
PLASU Branch, following engagement with the Government which made available funds to settle
the demands of the Union, the revised Academic Calander has been running smoothly, with
lectures for the semester concluded and examinations commencing on the 15thof April, 2024.
3.That admissions have since been concluded into the existing and newprogrammes approved by
the NUC.
4.That admissions have similarly been concluded into thePostgraduate programmes of the
University.
5.That PLASU has grown steadily with the current student population approaching 10,000 and a
steady expansion of Staff strength which is indicative of a bright future for the University.
6.That PLASU has not sacked any Staff nor has it received directivefrom any quarters to sack any
Staff. On the contrary, the newly employed Staff are servicing the existing and new programmes
of the University.
7.That Management is deeply concerned by the false impression put out in the public domain to
the effect that Staff members recruited to service new programmes have been laid off. This is both false and misleading.
8.That Management is aware of the need for additional Staff to meet the expansion in academic
programmes and intends to take it up with the proprietor for approval to recruit more Staff.
9.That consequent upon the foregoing, Management wishes to assure our students, parents, staff,
stakeholders, potential students and the general public that there are no concerns in the
relationship between the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Plateau State University,
Bokkos (PLASU) as it is academic and professional, therefore fears of the withdrawal of the
University’s operating license as insinuated by some groups have no basis.
